First principles vs analogical thinking

 I, like many, am most naturally comfortable with analogical thinking; i.e. learning through analogy.

This thing is like this other thing, therefore it should behave a certain way; vs this thing is NOT like this other thing, therefore it should behave differently. 

And I've contrasted analogical thinking from analytical thinking, with the reason being that we as humans learn more and are better able to communicates through the former. I still think this is true.

But what real builders do, those who want to disrupt or solve something previously not solved, they apply first principles thinking. 

First-principles thinking means breaking a problem down to its fundamental truths—the basic facts that cannot be reduced further—then rebuilding your solution from scratch based purely on those truths.

First principles thinking asks: “What do we know for sure? What is essential, what is assumed, and what can be reinvented?”

It then strips away convention, exposes hidden constraints, encourages novel solutions, and often produces innovation rather than incremental improvement.
