Thomas Sowell on moral hazard and trust

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong. - Thomas Sowell

In other words, if those in authority never have to worry about owning moral hazard, and if they never pay the cost of being wrong, they are de facto untrustworthy actors.
