Sweet Hour of Prayer

The final stanza of this great, historic hymn:

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight:
This robe of flesh I’ll drop and rise
To seize the everlasting prize;
And shout, while passing through the air,
“Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”

It reminds me that there are things that we have while on Earth that have become commonplace - things like prayer and the Bible. What is truly visionary, although completely logical, is the fact that when we die and ascend to heaven, we get to retire those things. What we know how in part we will eventually know in whole. There will no longer be a need for prayer and scripture because we will finally have the real thing.
