Snappy Comebacks

We were in a group setting with my beloved, my jewel, and some other family members. My little one was acting a bit sassy toward her elders, and I sought to tell her that she needs to be more respectful to them.

"Excuse me," I said. "These are your elders. We respect them. We do not talk to our elders that way in this house."

A pregnant pause ensues.

"Hmmm...." She thinks..."Outside?"

It was only my quick turn of the head that hid the smirk that betrayed the fact that I knew she had bested me.

(and pardon me while I gag at the fact that I actually used the phrase "...in this house." I am officially my father.)
