Wisdom in the desert

I pulled this block quote out of a Bible study that my beloved is doing on the Pentateuch. I thought it was very well said.

According to Stephen (the first Christian martyr), Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in word and deed (Acts 7:22). Moses' education in Egypt was necessary for his forthcoming ministry among the Hebrews who were to make their journey back to the land of promise. He received superb training from the Egyptians, who were renowned for their outstanding culture and civilization. However...mere knowledge in jurisprudence is not enough to lead the people of God. Moses would be faced with problems of human relationships. In addition, because the Hebrews were under theocratic rule, the leadership - in this case, Moses - needed a profound theological orientation. Ironically, he received this not in Egypt and not where his people were, but in the solitary desert of the Midians.

Pertinent points for yours truly:

• Secular education is important in this life. It is not to be overlooked or dismissed, even though it may not have a specific spiritual purpose. You never know for what that knowledge is equipping you.
• You may receive training and knowledge in places you might least expect. Remain open-minded in learning, but hold strong conviction in discernment.
• The law, be it secular or Biblical, is important. In many cases, it is extremely important. But it does not possess the power to save you, nor does it possess the power to force submission over people who would be loyal to you.
  
• True leadership only comes from submission to God first, who provides the true wisdom necessary to lead people by their head and by their heart.
• Sometimes, the greatest education comes while you are in the desert. Not only that, but often those lessons can only be learned when your spiritual journey feels most lost and God seems the farthest away.
